Summary

The Activities Director will oversee the day to day operation of activities centers, pools, beach area, as well as all activity engagements at London Bridge Resort. The position will be tasked with developing and delivering the most innovative, fun, and exciting guest experience programming in the industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

Develop and Implement Activities

London Bridge Resort Activities Director must develop and implement activities that appeal to a wide range of personalities and ages. They will complete needs assessments to determine how often activities will be offered, how seasons will affect these activities and what space is available for participants. Resort activities should be appropriate for the location and may reflect a theme. A resort activities director must research possible activity ideas, trying or sampling new activities and evaluating them as needed. They must stay informed about new trends in the field to offer popular activities. Group activities may include sporting activities such as volleyball or stand up paddle board lessons, games such as trivia, events such as karaoke nights or wine tastings, or activities such as crafts and jewelry making and painting. The activities director must then lead, delegate or implement those activities.

Schedule Activities

The Activities Director must create an activity schedule that reflects the resort's needs. They must vary the activities to ensure the schedule appeals to as many guests as possible. Activity schedules should not interfere with other resort events and may need to complement other scheduled events.

Supervise Recreational Staff

The Activities Director will need to supervise other recreational staff members including slide attendants, pool bar staff, sports professionals and other employees engaged with recreational activities. They will also be responsible for scheduling, managing and training other employees as necessary, introducing them to procedures or new activities as needed.

Communicate Activities to Resort Guests

Resort activities directors must also communicate activities to the resort's guests. They may need to update websites, produce newsletters or make calendars to highlight specific events. Additionally, these directors may send out invitations, publish brochures and update signage. This will require the ability to utilize Photo Shop, Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint, use audio visual equipment, be computer literate, as well as be creative and use creative software to make signage, as well as event newsletters, social media promotions, etc.

Manage and Maintain Recreational Needs

The Activities Director must have an accurate picture of the activity equipment to which they have access. For special events, they may need to secure equipment and ensure proper use and set up as well as breakdown and storage of equipment on site. They also ensure activity equipment remains clean, prepared and properly maintained.

Ensure London Bridge Resort Remains Top of Mind

The Activities Director must develop, enact, and manage activities and events for our guests and at times locals as well, to ensure there is always something fun and engaging to do. While at the same time, ensuring the activities generate a desire for the customer to spend more money while here and to also ensure they come back time and time again in the future.

 

Resort Wide:

  • Consistently follow the “Yes and…” standards at all times.
  • Follow all company and department policies and procedures.
  • Attend safety meetings, keep the workplace in safe condition, and work in a safe manner.
  • Adhere to attendance policy and report to workstation at scheduled start time.
  • Implement ideas or find ways to improve services, systems, and/or procedures.

Department:

  • Manage operations of activities centers, pools, pool bar, and staff, etc.
  • Help develop and run tours and tour service from resort for resort guests (tours to Oatman, Desert Bar, History Tours, etc.)
  • Create and implement innovative guest experiences on an ongoing basis.
  • Orchestrate all seasonal program changes and timely implementation of marketing materials.
  • Create and manage budgets, driving revenue and controlling expenses.
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage a young staff of over 20 employees.

  • Must be creative and engaging with a history to demonstrate your capabilities.
  • Must be able to work with Microsoft Suite of programs including PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Must also be able to work with creative design suites such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Design, etc.

 

 

Education and/or Experience:

University degree; and at least 3 years of experience managing teams in the resort industry or related field. The optimal candidate will have a strong background in event management in areas such as team building, resort activities, group recreation and resort services. A strong operations background coupled with the ability to create memorable guest experiences is essential.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to edit departmental marketing materials. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, guests, vendors or Team Members of the organization. Excellent communication skills required. Must be able to speak, understand, read and write English. Must have excellent English grammar skills, including punctuation, spelling, style, etc.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to make decisions that are in the best interests of the company. Ability to be flexible and easily adapt to change. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, field personnel and sub-contractors/vendors.

The Team Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those the Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Since many events are held outside, the Team Member must be able to work in temperatures that sometimes range in the 105 to 118 degree range, especially by the pools during the summer months. Noise levels in the work environment is usually low.
